A male plexippus paykulli is the first spider I have found and identified here in Morocco. I found it in my house hiding behind a painting in the living room. It originates in Southeast Asia, but has spread all over the world to Europe, North America, and North Africa. It is of the Salticidae, or jumping spider family. When in captivity (only briefly for examination), I watched the spider jump approximately 15 centimeters, which was from one side of the jar it was in to the other.
Distinguishing Physical Features:
-Black carapace with a white stripe going down to lower abdomen
- Stripes on face as well (there are three stripes on it's face)
-Four front row eyes
-Abdomen is black with white stripe down middle and on both sides
-App. 1.2 cm in length (including legs)
